Cyrus's story

A loving son and brother

At age 18 our son Cyrus Desai was ready to embark the world. He had graduated from high school with honors. He was treasurer of his marketing club Deca DECA. He won the regional competition and was placed second in the business entrepreneurship section of the state competition.

As part of FCCLA (family carrier community leaders of America). He was the only one from his school to make it to the state competition where he received second place. Cyrus was active member of the ZAH youth group and held various positions, including treasurer, wise president, and president.

Sports was his passion, Cyrus enjoyed playing and watching all sports. He played for the all-American football league starting in the third grade then went on to play for his middle school team. Cyrus had a lot of heart, and his toughness was admired by all his teammates.
Just as Cyrus was starting a promising college career, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. An active sportsman Cyrus was used to the rough and tumble of the athletic world. He seldom complained of aches and pains. When he started complaining of knee pain he was examined by multiple doctors.

It took six months and a battery test before the terrifying diagnosis of osteosarcoma was given. By that time the tumor which was in his femur had spread to his lungs. Unfortunately, Cyrus scenario is not unusual as most patients with osteosarcoma are diagnosed several months after the onset of symptoms.

A loving son and brother Cyrus fought bone cancer for three years. Despite the best efforts by some of the finest doctors at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, he was unable to overcome this horrific disease & lost the battle he had waged so valiantly at the tender age of 21.

Cyrus touched many lives with his vibrant personality and cheerful demeanor. Till the very end, he was always upbeat and never complained. Cyrus brought great joy, laughter, and love to our family for the short time he was with us.

No family should face osteosarcoma alone. The Cyrus Desai Charitable Foundation is here — every step of the way.
